Edinburgh COVID-19 Lockdown Directory Part I - food/grocery shopping
/This is the first in a series of blog posts of resources which I hope will help you to get through this period of lockdown while supporting small businesses in and around Edinburgh.
Supermarket delivery slots are as rare as rocking horse dung, and best left for the vulnerable who can’t go out at all. These smaller producers and suppliers are doing their utmost to keep us all well fed. By the end of all this, you are going to have to roll me out of the house. Please feel free to let me know who I’ve missed, there must be loads, and I’ll try my best to keep this updated.

Groceries
We’ve had an organic vegetable box delivery from Pete for 5+ years, he can also include eggs, bread and milk (in glass bottles). The veg is grown by Cyrenians, a social enterprise in Edinburgh with the non-seasonal fruit and veg from further afield. He can also refill your cleaning products and has liquid hand wash. Pete is a one-man band and working incredibly hard to keep this running smoothly so may not reply to emails immediately.
Root to market – from the team behind Fhior restaurant, delivering high quality food from their local small suppliers, currently serving these postcodes, but hopefully available beyond the bypass soon. Hygienic delivery by the restaurant staff. Good Brothers Wine Bar, Stockbridge, now offering deliveries of wines and spirits as well as cheese and charcuterie, Company Bakery bread, and even veg boxes
Edinburgh’s original packaging free eco supermarket. They stock organic veg boxes and groceries as well as cleaning products and more. They are offering free delivery within Edinburgh, or click and collect. A family run social enterprise, they have made a huge sacrifice to stay open and serve their customers, with Matt moving out of the family home while Stephanie runs the web side of things from isolation while caring for her mother.

The Good Store, organic and packaging free groceries in Inverleith. Now offering collection plus delivery within EH3, EH4 & EH5 Tuesday - Saturday 10am - 4pm. Download the order form from their website and order before midday for same day collection. They have flour
Easter Greens grocer and vegan foods are offering same day click and collect, or Deliveroo if you are within 1 ½ miles of their shop on Easter Rd.

Hendersons vegetarian restaurants may be shut but their deli/health food shop is offering delivery on orders over £30
MEAT + FISH
Crombies Butcher, Broughton St, is offering delivery within Edinburgh to those who are self-isolating or quarantined, call 0131 557 0111, or if you are able to get to the shop on Broughton St, they can prepare your phone order for quick collection. No web orders at the moment.
Pelham Farm organic meats are really wonderful. My husband did a butchery course with them years ago (best birthday present I’ve given him, apart from his favourite axe, but I digress) and we love seeing them at the Stockbridge Market order by midday Sunday for Thursday delivery Free no contact delivery by APC on orders over £95 (fill your freezer) or local orders in postcodes TD11, TD12, TD13, TD14 & TD15, otherwise UK Mainland south of Fife is £7.80
Gillespies Good Food butcher based in Biggar and delivering in Lanarkshire on Fridays and Saturdays, we’ve placed our first order and will report back.
Shaws Fine Meats butcher based in Lauder delivers meat boxes as well as pasta deli products and other staples. Delivery UK-wide for £10 or free on orders over £100
Armstrong’s Fish Stockbridge, The shop is open and stocked with great quality fresh fish but running on reduced staff and reduced hours 8.30 to 3pm, Tuesday to Saturday. Phone 0131 315 2033 or email for next day delivery within 10 miles inside Edinburgh.

Ramsays of Carluke is our local butcher and they are amazing. Sometimes I wake up dreaming of their bacon jam. CHEESE
Errington Cheese direct from the farm and their flock of Lacaune ewes in the Scottish Borders
IJ Mellis Their Stockbridge and Morningside shops are still open (Victoria St is closed), and they deliver including care packages of cheese, milk, pasta and other delicious things,
George Mewes Cheese (Edinburgh and Glasgow) online ordering available, Edinburgh shop now closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
TEA + COFFEE
Mr Eion does really really good coffee. Ethically sourced, roasted in Edinburgh and now available by post. I had a bit of a wobble when he shut up shop, even though I still had 500g in stock, so glad they are open again. My first order arrived by post this morning and I am happy.
Eteaket tea, free delivery on orders over £15, lots of lovely teas.
Fortitude coffee; their cafes may be shut, but you can buy their coffee on line or even get a subscription delivered to you so you never run out.
WHOLESALERS
These wholesalers and restaurant suppliers are now switching to retail or delivery

Charles Stamper fruit and veg boxes with free next day delivery within Edinburgh
Capital Wholesalers fresh produce at competitive prices, free contact-free home deliveries on orders over £25 within Edinburgh. They stock some niche products such as micro herbs and vegan options too. Some products are catering size so may see you through to the other side of lockdown.
